Creating immersive, on-brand environments is something Datum thrives on, especially when heritage and luxury intersect. When Taylors Port approached us to completely reimagine the bar and restaurant spaces at the prestigious Mitre Hotel in Hampton Court, we knew this would be a showcase of creative thinking, meticulous planning, and flawless execution.
Situated opposite the historic Hampton Court Palace, The Mitre Hotel is an icon of classic British elegance. Taylors Port, a globally recognised name in premium fortified wines, sought to align their timeless identity with the grandeur of the venue. This wasn’t just about signage or a few branded elements; it was a high-end brand activation designed to last for a dedicated three-month campaign.

Site Survey and Concept Development
As with any installation, we began with an on-site survey to assess layout, dimensions, audience flow and environmental factors. The survey is a crucial stage in our process, enabling us to design with purpose. Following the survey, we developed a suite of creative visual concepts that would bring the Taylors Port brand to life within the unique setting of The Mitre.
The creative direction was heavily inspired by the heritage of Taylors Port. From Portuguese port cellars to British stately homes, the theme embraced a classic, almost literary aesthetic. This informed everything from the backdrop selections to typography choices.
Immersive Interior Transformation
The bar area was completely transformed into an ‘Old English library’ setting — rich woods, leather textures, classic book imagery, and subtle lighting combined to evoke a sense of tradition and warmth. It was more than visual; it was atmospheric.
The front of the bar was vinyl-wrapped in deep black, creating a canvas for the Taylors Port name, which was produced in elegant white acrylic lettering. This contrast brought instant impact while maintaining a premium feel.
Old wine barrels — an iconic touchpoint for the Taylors brand — were repurposed and rebranded as interior props. Branded cushions, glassware, and supporting merchandise helped unify the visual theme and encouraged interaction.

Experience-Led Design Features
A key feature of the activation was the selfie station — a curated corner perfect for brand engagement and social media sharing. With the rise of user-generated content, especially in luxury hospitality, providing an Instagrammable moment is both a strategic and creative win.
From floor plans to finishing touches, Datum managed the full delivery. We liaised with The Mitre’s operations team, coordinated external suppliers, and ensured brand guidelines were met at every turn.
