Why we’re proud to Carbon Capture
At Datum, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to respecting the environment and conducting our business in a way that is at once ethical, sustainable and responsible.
That’s why we are proud to have signed up to the industry Carbon Capture programme. The Carbon Capture programme is simple but extremely impactful. When we make a purchase of paper from our preferred suppliers, they calculate the amount of CO2 generated in the production and delivery of our order. An additional charge is then added to our invoice.
Our Carbon Capture payments, along with those collected from other like-minded purchasers, are then sent directly to The Woodland Trust. The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity and the perfect charity partner for the Carbon Capture programme. The Woodland Trust invests the monies raised into planting woodland at one of its accredited woodland creation sites across the UK. We still have a long way to go, the average amount of tree cover across Europe stands at 44%. For the UK the comparative figure is just 13%. We believe that through participation in programmes such as this we can accelerate the growth of woodland in the UK which, in turn, helps to keep our industry sustainable.
Woodland growth is critical in efforts to reduce CO2 levels in the UK. However, its benefits go far beyond that with local wildlife numbers recovering and new and rare species moving into the new woodland sites being created. What’s more, the planting of trees, particularly alongside rivers, not only act as barriers to flooding but they can also reduce diffuse pollution and help with the survival of otherwise threatened native fish species.
At Datum we are always looking for how we can be more “green” and we always seek to work with partners and supply chains that share our ethos. Carbon Capture is one of the ways we prove this and another reason for our clients to believe that we are their cross media producers of choice.
